Meet The Team: Welcome Leo!

We did this little quiz thing with our new team member Leo! We are so excited to see what Leo accomplishes during thier time with LEARNEST. Keep an eye on our social channels to see examples of their work.

What is your name and pronouns?Leo James Rose Rutledge, they/them

Can you tell us a bit about yourself? I’m an archeology and anthropology student at University of Manchester, and I previously worked in publishing doing pretty much every job you can think of (specialising in Vampire Romance fiction, did that trend ever actually end?).

My hobbies include all kinds of arts and crafting, particularly origami and digital illustration. Snail Mail is one of my favourite things and I send around 10 postcards every week to family members and friends (take this as a hint to send someone a postcard). I’m queer, trans, disabled, neurodivergent, a dog owner and my favourite dinosaur is a Triceratops.

What is your new role at Learnest? I run the social media pages, which means it’s probably me responding to all of your comments and messages, hi! I am going to be creating awesome new content, sharing useful and fun information, and hopefully building a really supportive and wonderful little community across the platforms.

What attracted you to come and work with the Learnest team?
The ethos of growing together as an LGBT+ community is incredibly important to me, we have so much potential both as individuals and as a community and I was excited to see what Learnest will do.

What do you hope to achieve while working with Learnest?
On a personal level I hope to build more connections and relationships with LGBT creatives and professionals that I perhaps wouldn’t meet otherwise.

And for the team, I’d really love to nurture a thriving, engaging, interactive community on social media that holds each other up and shares in our collective successes.

Do you have any advice for anyone looking to work in communications and marketing?
Dive in! You probably already know more than you think, so start with the platform where you feel the most comfortable and jut begun building on what you know. Follow people who produce what you like, pay attention to who creates or manages their content and how they do it, then try it out for yourself. Create identity boards for your favourite brands or people, mock-up posts and captions that would go viral, interact with your current friends and followers to practice building rapport. Before you know it, you’ll be well on your way.
