Goodbye Lucy!

Dear Our House Community,

We hope this message finds you well. Today, we have some news to share with you all. After a wonderful year of dedication and hard work, Lucy Brown, our Centre Coordinator at Our House, will be bidding us farewell. Her last day with us will be on March 8th.

We want to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to Lucy for her invaluable contributions to Our House. Lucy's passion, skills, and unwavering commitment have significantly benefitted the local LGBTQ+ community of Wakefield and helped shape Our House to be the vibrant and welcoming community it is today.

Lucy has some words to reflect on her time at Our House:

The last year has been full of fantastic moments and brilliant people. One of my favourite memories is Trans Day of Visibility 2023 when the centre welcomed a full house as Nathan Wackett painted our famous trans mural in the corner. The buzz from that day was replicated during some of the other amazing events we organised as a group, including the Queer Makers Fairs that brought LGBTQ+ indie sellers to Wakefield, many for the first time.

What I cherish most about Our House, though, is the community we've built along the way. I might be leaving my role as Centre Coordinator but I'm certainly not leaving the community, so feel free to wave if you see me around! Queer spaces are more important than ever. If we can support each other through these difficult times, we most definitely should. Support Our House, support LGBTQ+ rights and, please, show your support and allyship for members of the trans community in Wakefield and Yorkshire whenever you get the opportunity. We're all in this together.”

As we bid farewell to Lucy, we also look ahead to the future of Our House. We are on track to open our doors in our new venue sometime early April 2024. We assure you that we are committed to maintaining the same level of excellence and community engagement that Lucy has helped us achieve.

Furthermore, we will soon commence the recruitment process to fill Lucy's role. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting opportunity to join our dedicated team.

Thank you once again, Lucy, for your outstanding contributions. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours.

Warm regards,

Louie Stafford
